Lucuma was founded in 2017 by Giancarlo Perez. Having grown up in Arequipa, Peru Giancarlo witnessed first-hand the pride and passion that goes into producing alpaca clothing, and felt a strong desire to preserve and promote the traditional methods that are used in making alpaca clothing in Peru. When Giancarlo was twenty four years old, he moved to Sweden to study a degree in Production development. He quickly learned that the practices that were so familiar in Peru, where not the same worldwide. Passion for materials, processes and products wasn’t apparent in the fast fashion industry. LUCUMA aims to be an exemplar environmental friendly company, having control over the production in Peru to ensure that production is conducted thought good practices. The company aims to be transparent and completely traceable, showing customers the way they work, the people who made their garments and the used materials. Currently, LUCUMA works with artisans (mainly women) in Peru, and aim to empower the women who work with the hand-made garments. Educational programmes and social impact are priorities for LUCUMA.
